Yangon ( Rangoon)

Capital and main gateway to Myanmar. An Asian tropical city still true
to its former colonial origins. Famous for the unique and glittering
Shwedagon Pagoda, temples, markets and impressive colonial-era
buildings.
Bago (Pegu)

Bago is a former ancient capital, 80 km from Yangon. Sightseeing here
includes impressive temples, open-air markets, cheroot making and
woodcarving center.
Kyaiktiyo

Located southeast of Yangon, Kyaiktiyo, or" Golden Rock" Pagoda is a
huge gold-plateed boulder poised on the edge of a steep cliff. On top
of the rock is a delicate pagoda.
Mawlamyaing (Maulmein)

Fourth largest city in Myanmar, still today the colonial atmosphere
can be felt throughout this town. Several fine monasteries and shrines
cover the hills of Mawlamyine.
Pyay ( Prome)

Located on the eastern bank of the Ayeyarwaddy river, the ancient Pyu
capital of Thayekhittaya (Sri Ksetra) , one of Myanmar's interesting
archaeological sites.
Bagan (Pagan)

One of the richest archaeological sites in Asia. Memorable for its
tranquility, as well as for its majesty.
Maunt Popa

Set amid lovely hill and forest scenery, Mt. Popa is a steep-sided
volcanic peak dedicated to the legendary "Nat" spirits of Myanmar. A
shrine lies at the top of over 700 steps.
Mandalay

Second largest city and former Royal capital of Myanmar. Many
historical buildings and temples and pagodas. A center for silk and
cotton weaving, marble carving, bronze and silver crafts and Kalaga
tapestries. Out of Mandalay the monasteries and pagodas covering the
hills of Sagaing, former ancient capitals of Amarapura and Ava. Mingun
with its vast unfinished pagoda and the world's largest intact bronze
bell.
Pyin Oo Lwin ( Maymyo)

A cool hill station, over 1,000m above sea level, founded during
colonial times beautiful scenery, a cool climate and nostalgic
atmosphere of former days with its old buildings and botanical
gardens.
Mogok

Center for Myanmar's richest gem mines, including sapphires and the
world's finest rubies, Mogok is reached by scenic road journey of up
to seven hours, 200km, into the hills north of Mandalay. The town
itself is also interesting for its temples and lively open-air gem
markets.
Monywa

Monywa 140 km northwest of Mandalay by road, Monywa is located beside
the Chindwin river, a major trading center for the region's
agricultural produce. The cross-river excursion to ancient carved cave
temples of Po Win Daung and spectacular Thanboddhay Paya Stupa
complex.
Taunggyi

Capital of the Shan State, a cool hill town set at 1,400m. Scenic hill
stations, such as Kalaw, and to the awesome sight of Pundaya Caves,
packed with thousands of ancient Buddha images.
Inle Lake

lovely lake scenery, hazy distant mountains and the interesting local
society. Floating is renowned for its unique leg-rowers and
characterful local markets.
Pathein (Bassein)

small port town, some 190 km west of Yangon Ayeyarwaddy river delta
region. A scenic waterfront, local umbrella workshops provide the
gateway to the Ngwesong.
Sittwe and Mrauk Oo

Capital of Rakhine Major attraction is the excursion upriver, through
beautiful scenery, to the ancient former capital of Mrauk Oo.
Thandwe (Sandawe)

Another Rakhine town. Thandwe is located about 10km north-east of
Ngapali with its golden sandy beach which will in due course be one of
the finest resorts in the country.
Myitkyina

Capital of Kachin State in the north of the country. With its nearby
scenic confluence of Mekha and Malika rivers.
